Space in the Spine: The Healing Power of Iyengar Yoga

Today we had an amazing workshop on back care with our Iyengar instructor. We started class with legs over a folding chair with a sandbag on our bellies and a bolster across our shins. It was so incredible to start class in a restorative pose. We moved through the class with many props that gave us space in our spine to relieve any discomfort.
One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year. Back pain accounts for more than 264 million lost work days in one year—that's two work days for every full-time worker in the country. Experts estimate that up to 80% of the population will experience back pain at some time in their lives.
We will be offering a back-care class in the near future! I think we could all benefit on learning a few techniques to relieve suffering!
